Creative Corks N'More

I was recently contacted by two lovely people, Devon and Tanita, who asked me to do a feature on their shop. Creative Corks N'More is an amazing shop based in Eugene, Oregon, which participates in the state's active green movement. Devon and Tanita do a wonderful job in reminding us that garbage has feelings too!! There is nothing more wonderful than an object with history and purpose. Their purpose with this shop is to "use less, reuse more, and have fun with garbage." They couldn't do it any better! 


Creative Corks N'More offers recycled products made from corks and mason jars. Why corks and mason jars? The owners explain that there are two main reasons for this; They are easy and simple to work with and, unlike general crafting medias, have endless possibilities. You can see the latter simply by looking at the main page of the shop. All their items are so imaginative and unique! 


With their shop, Tanita and Devon wish to share stories from the recycled items, in their own way. I think they achieve this perfectly. Here are some of my favorite items from this shop;

After-Holiday Shopping!

I don't know if this happens to many out there, but I LOVE the day right after Christmas. There's a bit of nostalgia, I'm a bit sad because work is coming back very soon, but I'm also happy because the previous two days are just about the only days I get to relax in the year. Most importantly though, I get in a strange shopping mood. I want to buy, buy and buy. Don't think I love boxing day, I loath it. I only venture outside to get tons of cheap fabric and then buy online for the rest of the day. It's really the only day in the year I get excited about spending money. Anyway, I wanted to share with you one of my favorite discoveries of the day.. Here it is! Hideminy - New York

First Final Project

Final Project #1


This is my final project for a class called Draping. Draping class = making everything on the mannequin without a pattern. To be honest, I had no faith in this dress when I began working on it. I can make my own patterns and things come out perfect, but making a dress without making a pattern first is extremely difficult for me.. My first project in that class was a disaster and so I was somewhat surprised with the outcome of this. I LOVE the fabric and was apprehensive about using because I thought the dress would be a disaster.. In the end, I'm glad I did. This is a 1950s reproduction of a 1950s Robert Piguet. I changed it up a bit and voila, this is what I ended up with. Under is a light crinoline (which I could definitely have made bigger). The dress stops right below mid-calf and has a hatler top with a cross-over effect. I added the sash around the waist, which is tied at back in a bow. The back of the dress is in a low scoop shape. I'm still trying to download pictures from my new phone onto my computer, but, when I do, I'll put up pictures of the back!

First 24 Hours

Hello everyone,

Welcome to my blog :)
We are now in the first 24 hours of my Etsy shop's opening, Miss Firth's Attic. I'm sure many people who have been in my shoes understand the feeling of complete fear and excitement that brings along a new shop. I have to bring my first cat reference to this blog; this really feels like the day I brought my two cats home after adopting them. Like I felt that day, like I couldn't and shouldn't leave my home. I get that same feeling with Miss Firth's Attic. I'm afraid the second I look away something will happen. Unfortunately for me, I've got a team meeting at school and a real life job to go to in a few hours. It's making me quite paranoid.

My job is at one of Canada's #1 bookstores. I like to describe myself as 'book slave'. This week, the holiday madness begins. People need and want to buy things. They are frantic, they are rushed and they panic. It's pretty fun for the most part, except when you get screamed at and called an idiot. Ah student jobs, haven't we all been there? I'll give this job credit.. Working at a grocery store and McDonalds was worst.

I'm sure this blog will see many bookstore rants! As well as school rants.. What you can be sure to see in future posts are accounts of my sleepless nights spent sewing for the play I'm designing and producing. I'm also obsessed with Etsy browsing and will be sure to share my favorite finds with you all :)
